How to Stay on Track this Winter Break

During the holidays it's tempting to eat all of the delicious food, catch up on Netflix, and not maintain the goals you set for this audition season. There’s nothing wrong with a little relaxation vacay - you deserve it, but finding a balance is key. Think of this winter break as a chance to keep your goals in check AND have some extra time to do what you want.

Keep yourself accountable with a buddy: Whatever your fitness goals are, it helps to have someone cheering you on for that extra mile you ran, or calling you out for skipping breakfast. When you have a family member, friend, or colleague keeping you accountable, it makes you think twice before making a decision. Apps like MyCalorieCounter or even making a local spreadsheet to log workouts, food, or water intake can keep you and your buddy on track for audition season.

Keep yourself accountable on social media: When I follow someone on social media, it's because I see consistency. What does that mean in terms of singers? I like following my favorite divas and divos because I see people who are not afraid to share what they're up to, or atleast, give us fans and followers a taste of what their life is like. Take this winter break to get back to your follower base and keep them updated on what's new. If you're not that into social media platforms, maybe update your website, blog, or even just send an email to grandma. You now have some extra time to update and revamp what you currently have. Share your latest workout, recipe, or new adventure to your friends and family.

Free time means new adventures: Whenever I go back home, I always pass by an Aerial Yoga studio and have always wanted to try a class. I have dreamed of trying to imitate those acrobats in Cirque de Soleil. Is there a class, tour, or local area in your community that you’ve always passed by but never had the time to explore? Grab some childhood friends, or maybe have some precious alone time with an added adventure. Sometimes companies even offer a discounted rate over the holidays for first timers. Take advantage of them!

Free time also means more Y-O-U time: Maybe your busy schedule has not given you the time to really enjoy a nice long walk outside or a rejuvenating bath. Before audition season hits us in the face, it might be nice to have those quiet moments of clarity. Go back to your old hangout spot, or maybe enjoy some quality time with the family or out with friends. These precious moments are meant for you and only you. When you’re singing about all those times of happiness, you’ll have all those happy memories banked up.
